Library /Media Center

Our Mission

The mission of the Black Rock School Library Program is to encourage the love of reading and to start students on the road to lifelong learning by helping them develop the skills they need to locate and use information effectively.

Mrs. McGirr, Library/Media Specialist

Students visit the library every week with their classes. In the story area, students hear books read aloud from a variety of genres including realistic fiction, fantasy, folk tales, biography, and informational books. Students have library lessons each week to enhance the reading skills and other subjects they are learning in their classrooms. They are introduced to various authors, learn how the library is organized and begin developing research skills. Children complete projects based on the weekly topics and have the opportunity to check out books.
